WhatsApp is a popular instant messaging app that allows users to send text messages, voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share media files such as photos and videos. The messaging platform has been receiving very important updates recently.

The most recent update includes the ability to let the users save disappearing messages within the app.

Messages still Disappear when the Timer Runs Out

The disappearing messages feature in WhatsApp allows users to send messages that will automatically disappear after a certain period of time. When this feature is enabled, any messages sent to a chat will be automatically deleted after seven days. This includes text messages, photos, videos, and any other type of media shared on the chat.

The feature is designed to add an extra layer of privacy to your conversations and to help keep your chat history clutter-free. WhatsApp’s new feature, “Keep in Chat,” allows users to save disappearing messages by long-pressing on a message. However, the sender will be notified and can decide whether to keep the message in the chat. If not, the message will disappear when the timer runs out. Saved messages are marked with a bookmark icon and can be found in a “Kept Messages” folder. WhatsApp is gradually rolling out this feature, which will be available to all users soon.

WhatsApp now lets you hold onto disappearing messages if the sender agrees

Although it may seem like Keep in Chat contradicts disappearing messages, WhatsApp explained in a blog post that this feature is useful for retaining important information like addresses or voice notes. The sender of the message has the final say on whether to keep a message, giving them control over their privacy.
