Batteries have greatly evolved in recent years along with the charging speed capabilities. However, it’s an undeniable fact that the faster-charging methods are more harmful to batteries than the slow ones from the past.


For the above reason, it’s a great idea to keep a track of your battery healthy and avoid unnecessary problems. A bad battery can affect your usage and also the performance of a smartphone. In bad conditions, they can even swell or explode.

Back in 2018, Apple introduced a battery health feature with iOS 11.3. Unfortunately, Google didn’t follow Apple with this feature and it’s still absent in vanilla Android. Except for Huawei, which already offers this, it’s not super simple to get access to battery health on Android devices. Check Your Android Smartphone Battery Health Using ADB

ADB method is known for needing a PC and the phone connected with it. However, for battery health, you can also use the LADB app. Anyway, those who want to go the old method will need to install ADB drivers and enable Developer Options on your phone to turn on the USB Debugging feature. Your phone needs to be fully charged, otherwise, the measurements will be incorrect. To go into the method follow the following steps:

  • Open command prompt (cmd) on PC. You need to open the CMD in the ADB folder, so it will make things easier. 
  • Type “ADB shell” and connect your phone to your PC. If the drivers are installed properly, the PC will promptly detect the phone and you will see the device codename on the command prompt.
  • If everything is correct, type “dumpsys battery” and enter.


Through ADB, it’s possible to check the current, voltage, capacity, temperature, and other information of your device’s battery. The “Charge Counter” in the information shows the battery capacity of the device, and “status” means whether the battery is full or now. In case, it’s full it will show status: “5”. The data will certainly vary depending on your battery capacity, but the above image shows a battery that has still a charge counter of 2368000, or 2,368 mAh available.

To check the battery health percentage, you need to use a math formula. You need to use the following formula: (actual capacity / current capacity) *100. For example, the formula here considers the Pixel 4 battery of 2,800 mAh. So the math is (2386 / 2800) *100. As a result of the calculation, the battery health is 85 percent, but the data may not be 100 percent accurate. As said before, the most accurate results come with a fully-charged battery.

How To Check Xiaomi Battery Health Using Bug Report Method

Interestingly, users of Xiaomi smartphones running MIUI have an alternative way to check battery health. You can do so by creating a bug report in the software, and it uses the same math formula.

  • You’ll need to open the settings and click the “My device”. Then view all specifications and click on CPU info 5 times.
  • The device will create a bug report and you’ll be able to find it from the status bar.
  • Locate and extract the bug report zip file that matches the date you created the bug report. You can use the native file explorer to do so.
  • Click and enter the file you extracted, there is another zip inside. Extract this zip file and enter in this.
  • Open the text file in the last compressed file you extracted in a text editor and search for “healthd” in it.


There is an fc value in the health line. It shows the current capacity of the device’s battery. You can get the amount, for example, fc=5,160,000 for a 5,160 mAh battery. The formula (actual capacity / current capacity)*100 will be used here. The result is the percentage of the battery health. This process is simpler and more interesting for Xiaomi users. After all, it won’t require you to install drivers and you won’t need to be familiar with ADB.
