The recently launched Google Pixel 7 Pro has now topped iPhone 14 Pro to become the highest-ranked smartphone on DxOMark, in terms of scores on the website. The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a powerful second-gen Tensor G2 SoC under the hood.

To recap, Google unveiled the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones at its Made by Google 2022 event. There were a lot of expectations from the Pixel 7 series duo. The Pro model did not disappoint as it surpassed the latest iPhone 14 Pro to become the best smartphone in the DxOMark rankings.

The Pixel 7 Pro bagged 147 points overall. Notably, the handset houses three cameras on the back. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor. Moreover, it has a 48MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Furthermore, the Pixel 7 Pro scored 148 points and 143 points in the photo and zoom tests, respectively.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro got 146 points on DxOMark. Likewise, the iPhone 14 Pro Max gained 149 points. Earlier reports indicated that the Pixel 7 Pro will not offer major improvements over its predecessor. However, the handset was tipped to pack an upgraded Tensor G2 chip. So, its outstanding performance on DxOMark is pretty surprising.

The website known for evaluating smartphones has shared a camera review of the Pixel 7 Pro. The smartphone’s overall camera ranking on the benchmark is 147. Meanwhile, the camera ranking of the iPhone 14 Pro is 146. Aside from the Pixel 7 series phone, the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate is on top of the list of best camera smartphones on DxOMark.

The iPhone 14 Pro and Huawei P50 Pro follow the duo. Moreover, the iPhone 13 Pro is in the fifth position on the list. The Pixel 7 Pro bagged 148, 143, and 143 points for still photography, zoom, and video respectively. Also, it got 70 points in Bokeh and 74 points in the preview. DxOMark even shared some comparison shots that highlight the onboard advancements.

Furthermore, the telephoto capabilities of the phone got 109 points. Likewise, the wideness of the ultra-wide sensor got 111 points. The exposure and colors in the photo got 113 and 119 points respectively. According to DxOMark, the 7 Pro provides impressive details in various zoom ranges.

Moreover, the benchmarking website claims there is a notable improvement in the contrast backlit portrait scenes and the autofocus in photos, as well as videos. The Pixel 7 Pro also provides better video recording. It got 106 points for exposure and 110 points for colors.

On the downside, the website reveals the Pixel 7 Pro camera offers shadow noise in low light and high-contrast scenes. Other major drawbacks include color casts in indoor video footage. Lastly, there’s some image noise at close-range zoom shots.
