Meta Facebook introduced the ability to send and receive SMS messages via the Facebook Messenger back in 2016. However, the feature has now been taken down. The company announced the news in a new post on its Help Center page.
Users who rely on Messenger as their default SMS app will no longer be able to send and receive texts after updating the app on September 28.
Facebook is also advising Android users to switch their default messaging app to Google Messages or their phone’s default messages app.
