MTN in partnership with Facebook has launched Facebook AutoFlex and Free Basics.

Facebook Auto Flex

Facebook Auto Flex is a service that offers MTN customers who do not have an active data bundle free access to limited version of Facebook (access to text only, no photos, no videos).

It will automatically move those who are Facebook users between free and paid mode based on data balance and prompt them while they are on Facebook App to either activate a data plan when they click on a photo/ video or exhaust their daily free volume.

Free Basics

Free Basics is a service that offers MTN subscribers free internet access (up to a threshold) to websites that are part of the Free Basics program e.g. nairaland, wikipedia, jobberman,, etcetera and also to Facebook.


The websites that are part of the Free Basics program will be available for free to MTN customers who do not have an active data bundle.

How To Access Free Basics

You can access the Free Basics by downloading and installing the app from your mobile device app store or entering this web address: on your browser.

How To Be Eligible For The Free Basics and Autoflex Service

All MTN customers who have zero data balance on their mobile phones are eligible to enjoy the Free Basics and Autoflex service within 20MB daily data allowance. The 20MB daily data allowance will be deducted when you browse on both Facebook Autoflex and Free Basics.

The daily 20MB will be valid for 1 day and you will NOT be able to roll over their unused daily data allowance. Also, all unused data will be cleared by midnight and you will get another 20MB the next day.

You will receive threshold notifications once they attain 50%, 90% and 100% usage of their daily data allowance in order to know their data balance.

Please note that you will not be able to enjoy Free Basics while you are outside the country.
