DStv won’t air AFCON as MultiChoice fails to secure rights

One of the major reasons why many Africans subscribe to Multichoice DSTV is Football. And now, the Pay TV platform says it would air this year African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on DSTV or GOtv.

The company took to its social handle to announce that subscribers won’t be able to watch the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to begin January 13 – February 11th, 2024.

The statement reads:

“Dear Valued Customers,

“SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024 because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“MultiChoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivaled access to entertainment and football games available on DStv and GOtv platforms including the premier League, LaLiga, Series A, Zambian Super League, and many more of Football’s most prestigious Competitions.”

This is coming after raising subscription prices for all packages on both DStv and GOtv a few weeks ago.
