Sony is already working on a PS6 and not PS5 Pro

The PlayStation 5 was a massive success for Sony, with sales figures exploding since its launch in November 2020. Despite supply chain issues causing shortages, the console has become a must-have item for gamers around the world. The shortage has since ended, with the console being available for the public.

One of the factors contributing to the success of the PlayStation 5 is its faster SSD and the DualSense controller, which has enhanced functionality compared to its predecessor, the PS4. Additionally, the console boasts some of the best games on the market, making it ideal for gamers.

Sony Is Already Working On A PS6 and Not PS5 Pro

Despite the success of the PlayStation 5, rumors have circulated that Sony has abandoned the idea of releasing a PS5 Pro and a PS5 Slim in favor of the PS6 and a modular PS5, which is already in development. These rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro may have been discontinued due to Sony’s limited resources. Mark Cerny, who was responsible for the development of the PS5, is reportedly also leading the development of the PS6.

According to industry insiders, the PS6 will not launch until 2028. This leaves a significant gap between the PlayStation 5 and the PS6, which the modular PS5 can fill. This new console could be designed with a removable disk drive.

Allowing Sony to offer a more affordable and less complex version of the PS5. This approach would give Sony time to focus on developing the PS6. And creating a new console that meets the expectations of its fans.

It is unclear at this stage if the rumors about the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim are accurate. However, if Sony is focusing on developing a modular PS5 and the PS6, it would make sense for the company to discontinue these other models. This strategy would allow Sony to focus its resources on its upcoming hardware and software, corporate partnerships, and global marketing efforts.
