Instagram has just eliminated two of its standalone applications from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The two new apps that were discontinued are Boomerang and Hyperlapse.
In other words, both of these apps are no longer available on either iOS or Android devices. Many Twitter users found out that the social media platform had removed both of the apps from the app stores. Recently, the Meta owned brand had also announced that it was discontinuing its standalone app for IGTV as well. This was primarily due to Instagram’s plan on shifting its focus to a single main app rather than a bunch of smaller ones.

Furthermore, the company had already integrated the IGTV platform into the primary app for years now. Similarly, Boomerang and Hyperlapse were always features on the main app. So, it arrives as no surprise that the social media platform quietly discontinued both of the apps. These were originally launched during a time when smartphone had limited performance. Thus, you had a separate app dedicated to just the Boomerang and Hyperlapse feature.
Despite the standalone apps offering a better Boomerang effect or time lapse recording overall, these features have been available in the main app for a while now.
On the other hand, Instagram’s Layout application is still available for download. This app helps in making photo collages, but it shouldn’t take too long for the company to take this down as well.
