WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook gets Meta AI integration

It’s no longer news that Meta AI, the company’s A.I. powered smart assistant is already being integrated across all its apps.

Meta is integrating its AI capabilities into the search functionality of its major platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook. The assistant is available via a chatbot on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram and appears in the main Facebook feed. It also has a standalone website as well.

The AI is powered by two small Llama 3 models (8B and 70B parameter scale) as the company is preparing to launch a bigger multimodal version.

Meta says that you will be able to access real-time information from across the web without switching apps when you’re inside its apps. The company claims that Meta AI’s image generation is faster and can produce images as you type.

Meta AI Availability

Meta is rolling in some African countries including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and South Africa – Kenya is sadly missing. Other countries include the US, Australia, Canada, Pakistan, Jamaica, New Zealand and Singapore.

While the AI only supports the English language, the company says it will add more languages and more countries to reach its more than 3 billion daily users across the world.

Meta is playing catchup with other tech companies in the AI space including OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.

“Our goal over time is to make a Llama-powered Meta AI the most useful assistant in the world. There’s quite a bit of work remaining to get there,” said Joelle Pineau, vice president of Meta AI Research.

It’s worth noting that the AI is also accessible on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and will be coming soon to the Meta Quest.
