Meta‘s own messaging app, WhatsApp, has recently been receiving some updates focusing on UI/UX enhancements and the addition of long-awaited features. The latest update, version 2.23.19.7, available through the Google Play Beta Program, brings an exciting development: chat filters.
About Group Chats Filter Feature
According to WABetaInfo, this new feature is designed to empower users with more control over their conversations, simplifying message management and prioritization. While it’s still in development, the latest beta update offers a sneak peek at some significant improvements.
The new filter allows users to compile a list of their group chats while excluding individual conversations. To enhance clarity and distinction, the “Personal” filter has been renamed to “Contacts” to exclusively include individual chats. Notably, the “Business” filter has been removed in this update.
Now there’s a dedicated “Groups” tab filter which is a welcome change, acknowledging users’ long-standing requests for an easier way to manage and organize group chats within the app. Many individuals are part of multiple groups, whether for work, family, friends, or hobbies, and this filter promises swifter access and better organization.
Presently, the feature is available to a limited group of WhatsApp beta testers but is expected to roll out to a broader audience in the near future, as it is refined and polished.
In addition to chat filters, WhatsApp is actively working on other features, such as email verification and the ability to hide IP addresses during calls. Moreover, users can now respond to WhatsApp status updates using avatars in the latest beta version, further enriching the app’s functionalities.
