Microsoft Paint app gets ‘background removal’ tool

Microsoft‘s Paint app has received an exciting feature which makes it easier for you to remove backgrounds from your images. This update, similar to Photoshop’s functionality, allows you to quickly eliminate the background of any image with just one click.

Microsoft has been diligently updating the Windows Paint app in recent months, including the addition of a dark mode in the last update.

How To Remove Background in Microsoft Paint

With the background removal tool, you can effortlessly eliminate the background from any image in one click, leaving a clean cutout of the subject. It can identify the subject across the entire canvas or from a specific selection made with the selection tool.

  1. Paste or import your image onto the canvas.
  2. Click the new “remove background” button in the toolbar.
  3. Watch as the background disappears from your entire image.
  4. Alternatively, use the rectangle select tool to specify which area you want to remove the background from.

Availability

The background removal feature in Paint (version 11.2306.30.0) app is now rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, and is expected to roll out for the stable channel in the coming weeks.
