If you still using a Windows Phone 7.5 or Windows Phone 8.0 smartphone in 2018, then you must seriously be a huge fan of windows. Microsoft’s mobile platform is basically dead and you must still be hanging on not for the functionality. This news could be in form of a bad one to you but no worry. Microsoft is shutting down mobile push notifications for these two versions of their mobile OS.

And that’s not all, aside your Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 smartphones no longer getting notifications, they will also no longer receive live tiles updates, and the “find my phone” feature will not work on them again.

Below is the statement from Microsoft:

On February 20, 2018, Mobile Push Notification services will be turned off for Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0. Once this happens: Your phone will no longer receive notifications. Your phone will not receive additional live tile updates. The “Find my phone” feature will no longer locate your phone. Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0 have reached their end of support dates, and thus services for these versions of Windows will be discontinued over time.

The shutdown takes effect from today February 20, 2018.

It appears strange if anyone still using a Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone today, but hey! Windows Phone OS isn’t receiving any updates anymore already and this new development simply means that Microsoft is telling users Bye-bye. It is time to move on from Windows Phone. If you own one of those, it is time to switch. You will be better off on Android OS or iOS, though you could opt to cross over to Windows 10 Mobile.

But Then Again, Is Windows 10 Mobile On its last legs Too?

More apps keeps ending support for Windows 10 Mobile, the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS. The latest in line is Uber. The Windows 10 Mobile app stopped working on my Lumia 950 a while ago, and so it is no surprise that Uber has made an official statement that they are no longer developing for Windows 10 Mobile.

What do you think about this move?
