The new change by MTN is in line with the recent directive given by Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to all mobile operators.

NCC recently unveiled harmonized short codes which would allow users of any mobile network operators in the country to recharge, check account balances and carry out other services.

The objective of the harmonization is to bring balance into the licensing and utilization of short codes in Nigeria which presently needs proper alignment with the requirements of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and International best practices.

The commission directed the mobile network operators to commence the implementation of the approved harmonised codes with May 17, 2023, being the deadline.
