Oppo has officially announced the ColorOS 12 in China. As expected, the company’s latest version mobile operating system is based on Android 12. It brings many new features, both on the functions side and for the user interface. As the new version is expected to hit all Oppo, and OnePlus (in China), let’s see what changes compared to the previous version.

ColorOS 12 New Features:

  • Overhaul of the user interface based on Infinite Design with new icons, animations, avatars. The design of the icons has been uniform throughout the UI, the colors are more muted.ColorOS 12

  • Increased text contrast, added color shades

  • 300 new animations thanks to the Quantum Animation Engine
  • AI for the containment of lag in the UI. Tests conducted by Oppo have obtained satisfactory results: a simulation of continuous use for 36 months has in fact led to an aging of the smartphone by only 2.75% and a decrease in reading and writing performance of 5%. The same AI can manage the apps so as to guarantee a personalized use of the smartphone based on the habits and preferences of the users.
  • New features for privacy and security (as provided by Android 12)
  • Ability to delete metadata from images and videos before they are shared on the network

ColorOS 12 launched

ColorOS 12 Update Plan and Eligible Devices:

Oppo revealed the smartphones that will be updated to the new version of the software. As per the schedule, almost half of the eligible devices will receive the update (at least public beta) by end of 2021 itself.

The update timeline shared by the company confirms that the current-gen flagship models like the OPPO Find X3 series and the OnePlus 9 series will get the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 update in October itself. Furthermore, the Oppo Find X2 series and the Oppo Reno6 series will get access in November, followed by the Oppo Ace2 series, the Oppo Reno5 series, and some Oppo K/A series phones in December.

Lastly, the remaining Oppo Reno series handsets (up to 3rd gen), select Oppo K/A series smartphones, the original Oppo Ace models, and OnePlus phones (up to 7th gen and 9R) will be updated in the first half of 2022.

Unsurprisingly, like any other OEM, Oppo says that the availability of ColorOS 12 for the above-listed handsets is subjected to change based on various factors. Also, this timeline is only meant for Open Beta, and therefore, the final release will likely happen in a month or two from the mentioned months.

Having said that, we expect to learn about ColorOS 12 Global update schedule at a separate event for international markets in the coming days.
