Facebook, recently launched Instagram Reels to take on TikTok. According to the social media giant, some Instagram Reels creators will have the opportunity to share their short video clips on Facebook. Facebook will promote some users’ Reels videos in its main application information stream. The company will name this short video product “Reels on Facebook”.

In August last year, Facebook launched the short video function, Instagram Reel, in more than 50 countries and regions. Of course, it launched this app to challenge TikTok. Reel, like TikTok, allows users to create 15-second videos based on music or audio, and adds augmented reality (AR) special effects.

The short video is the latest example of Facebook plagiarizing the ideas of small rivals such as TikTok and SnapChat. The company is trying to use the coverage of its social network to promote these new services. In addition, Facebook is also integrating other products from Instagram. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other regulatory agencies have initiated antitrust lawsuits seeking to revoke Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, also attaches great importance to the challenge posed by TikTok. In October 2019, he said in a question and answer session with employees that TikTok is really the first Internet product to achieve worldwide success.
