Qualcomm’s 7 series Snapdragon chips are aimed at classic mid-range smartphones. And now, the chip manufacturer has announced the next Snapdragon 7 series processor, called the Snapdragon 780G 5G. The new chipset will provide better AI performance, better camera experience and 5G support. Plus, it comes with some advanced features.
The Snapdragon 780G SoC is based on an octa-core architecture and is the successor to the Snapdragon 768. It will target low-budget 5G smartphones. In this regard, WinFuture believes that the new Qualcomm 780G processor will first appear on the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. The latter should be uncovered with the Mi 11 Pro and the Mi 11 Ultra on March 29 and become a leader in the affordable 5G phones segment.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Features
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G follows the characteristics of the current flagship product Snapdragon 888 chipset. We mean the new 780G also uses a 5nm process. It has an octa-core CPU, including 2 ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a clock frequency of 2.4GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.8GHz. The SoC supports LPDDR4 memory. Interestingly, Samsung will manufacture these new Qualcomm chips.
Apart from this, the Snapdragon 780G integrates the Adreno 642 GPU, and its graphics driver supports OTA updates. This is good news for game lovers, because the GPU will provide true 10bit HDR resolution during gaming.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G is the first 7-series processor to obtain the Spectra 570 image signal processor (ISP). The ISP can support three different cameras at the same time (telephoto, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle). The chipset can achieve better photo quality in low light conditions and allows video recording in HDR 10+ and 4K HDR resolutions. AI fixed-point computing performance is 12 TOPs, more than twice that of the previous generation Snapdragon 765G.
Moreover, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G uses the Snapdragon X53 modem to provide 5G connectivity. The modem can reach a download speed of 3Gbps on a sub-6 GHz network. Like the high-end Snapdragon 888, it also supports Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, thanks to FastConnect 6900.
The Snapdragon 780G will be commercially available in the second quarter.
Device To Debut SD 780G
According Qualcomm, commercial devices powered by the new chipset are expected in the second quarter of the year and WinFuture adds that it may likely make its debut in the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G.
