Sony One is an online video entertainment service that offers Hollywood movies and US TV series.  Stream or download and watch on a wide range of devices, the way that suits you. No contracts, no commitments and no ad breaks.

Sony One in partnership with MTN offers two types of video streaming packs, with or without data.

Sony One also offers you the ability to rent the latest blockbuster movies. In partnership with MTN you can rent a movie with or without data.

How do I get the Sony One app?

  • Sony One is available for Android and Apple phones (and Android TV for Safaricom)
  • Go to the app store on your device, search ‘Sony One’, select and download.
  • To start watching, sign up at www.sonyone.ng and follow the easy steps.
  • Once you’re a subscriber, log in to the Sony One app on your device and hit play.

How do I set up a Sony One account?

With your Sony One account, you can log into any supported device and watch Hollywood  Movies and US TV series, on-demand. To create an account for Sony One, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.sonyone.ng
  2. Choose between day, week or month.
  3. Press Sign Up Now.
  4. Enter your name and email address and create a password (remember it must contain at least 8 characters, 1 capital and a number.
  5. Enter your card details.
  6. You’re set to go and ready to enjoy Sony One content.

To register for Sony One, please go to the landing page www.sonyone.ng

  • You’ll then be asked to create your Sony One account
  • Enter your name and email address
  • Enter your mobile number
  • Then the OTP sent to your device to confirm your subscription
  • You’ll then be able to log in via the website or app and access Sony One content
  • Sony One is billed in advance so you will need to have sufficient prepaid airtime or card balance to pay for whatever Sony One video streaming pack you choose.

How old do I need to be to register for Sony One?

In order to register and use the Sony One Service, you must be 18 years of age. Provided that if you are under 18 but at least 13 you may access and use the Sony One Service on the condition that you have the consent of your parent or guardian  and that your parent or guardian is the registered user who has consented to these  Terms.

If you are under the age of 13 you are not permitted to use or register for the Sony One Service.

What are video streaming packs/passes?

  • Video streaming pack/pass is the name we give to our streaming product.
  • It is a time based data plan that allows customers to watch videos from a data enabled device
  • Available for 1 day, 7 days or 30 days duration
  • You can buy a video streaming pack/pass with or without mobile data
  • Please note the mobile data included in the pack is only for use with the Sony One service and cannot be used for other browsing

How does the free trial work?

Try Sony One free for 3 days, subject to registering for the Sony One service.

If you enjoy your free trial, please come back and purchase a video streaming pack, with or without data, when you next want to watch.

The free trial is only available once per new customer registering for the Sony One service. No data is included.

What is a video streaming binge pack?

A video streaming binge pack is the name we give to two special products with extra mobile data, part of which is for the Sony One service and part of which that can be used for other browsing.

  • There’s a video streaming binge pack for one-day duration.
  • This includes 2GB of mobile data (1Gb for Sony One + 1G for other browsing)
  • There’s another video streaming binge pack for 30 days’ duration
  • This includes 8GB of mobile data (5GB for Sony One +G for other browsing)

What is a Sony One movie rental pack / movie rental with data?

  • The Sony One movie rental pack is a time-based plan that allows customers to rent a Sony One video from a data enabled device
  • This pack is available with or without mobile data

How much does Sony One cost?

Sony One in partnership with MTN, offers both video streaming packs (without data) and video streaming packs with data.

Please note the mobile data you purchase is only for use with the Sony One service, with the exception of the Video Binge Pack – where data is available for other browsing purposes too

Which payment methods do you offer?

  • There are many safe and secure ways to pay with MTN.
  • You can pay with airtime credit or debit and credit cards.
  • Your payment will be safe and secure via your Telco provider.
  • You choose your payment package. Packages are pre-paid only.
  • Cancel online, anytime.

How do I change my video streaming pack?

  • You cannot change a pack once it has been purchased.
  • Sony One packs last as long as the duration you select when you purchase the pack. (i.e. 1 day, 7 days, or 30 days).
  • You should wait for your current pack to expire and then you can select and purchase a new one.

How can I view the status of my Sony One pack?

You can view your current streaming pack status by going to More/ Data plans and payment in the Sony One app menu.

Please note that no pricing is shown in the app. Only the name of the pack and the remaining duration is shown.

How can I view my billing / pack expiry date?

  • You can see the remaining duration of your streaming pack in the app.
  • Go to More/ Data plans and payment in the app menus

Where can I find my payment details?

  • Sony One does not store any payment details for you.
  • All payment details are stored with your Telco partner.

How do I update payment information?

Why was my card transaction declined?

If your card is being declined when you are trying to pay for a Sony One streaming pack, then this is probably due to one of two reasons:

  1. The account does not have sufficient funds to cover the transaction amount at the time of the transaction.
  2. Your bank has declined the transaction. You will need to contact your bank or card holder for more details.

Why was payment declined?

If you have received an email or notification from MTN stating your payment has been declined, the payment could have declined for a number of reasons:

  • The card on file is no longer valid or has expired
  • Your bank or credit card company did not approve the charge
  • There may be insufficient funds
  • The payment information provided to us does not match what your bank or card company has on file

Why is money still being taken from my account?

  • If you are still seeing money being taken from your account it could be that you have not cancelled your auto-renewal properly.
  • You need to ensure that you cancel your Sony One service with your Telco provider.
  • You may also have multiple subscriptions with auto-renewals or, if you have set up a subscription through the Sony One website and then through an in-app purchase.

You will need to cancel each individually.

If you do not cancel each auto-renewal, you will continue to be charged for any that are still active. If you have any further questions, please contact your Telco provider.

How do auto-renewals work?

  • When you purchase a video streaming pack with your Telco provider, you are allowed to choose either one-time purchase or auto-renewal options.
  • The video streaming pack will auto-renew when your original purchase expires.
  • The expiration date depends on the duration of the original video streaming pack. If you bought a daily pack, it will auto-renew after 24hrs, if you bought a weekly pack, it will auto renew after 7 days, if you bought a monthly pack, it will auto renew after 30 days.
  • When your pack is set to auto renew, your Telco provider will automatically take another payment choosing the method you originally purchased with (card/airtime balance)

How do I cancel my auto renewal?

Why is my account suspended?

If your account status is suspended it indicates that your Telco provider was unable to collect a payment for one of the following reasons:

  • The card on file is no longer valid or has expired
  • Your bank or credit card company did not approve the charge
  • There may be insufficient funds
  • The payment information provided to us does not match what your bank or card company has on file

To re-activate your account, please update your card details with your Telecoms provider

What personal data is collected during account creation?

The data required during account creation is as follows: –

Your Telco provider will also share a unique code called MSISDN number

How do I cancel Sony One?

If you signed up via MTN website or myMTN app…

  • MTN Customer Services need to cancel your subscription.
  • Please contact them requesting cancellation and they will do this.
  • You can cancel any time and the service will automatically end on your next billing anniversary.

If you signed up via Sony ONE website…

  • On a laptop, PC, tablet or mobile device:
  • Open a browser and go to Setting/ Data plans & Payment
  • Click on Cancel Your Subscriptions and follow the instructions.

If you signed up via the Sony One app…

  • Android users can go to More/Data plans and pricing and follow a link to cancel
  • Apple users, must go the Sony One website or contact their Telco provider to cancel

How do I delete my account and remove my personal data?

I cannot download the app – can you help?

If you are having problems downloading the Sony One app, please check your device is compatible and you are running the latest iOS or Android software on your device.

  • Your device needs to have 30Mb of space (iOS) and 60Mb of space (Android) available to download Sony One app.
  • Apple devices must be running iOS 12 or above.
  • Android devices must be running Android 5 or above

How do I find out which version of the Sony One Apple iOS app is installed on my device?

What can I do if I still have problems with playback?

  • Close the Sony One app (or your web browser, if you’re watching on a computer) on your device and restart it.
  • If you’re having issues with playing back Sony One content, ensure that your device (such as a web browser or mobile phone) is up to date with all of the latest software updates installed.
  • If you are able to connect to the Internet, check your connection and update your connected device’s DNS settings. Please check with your device’s manufacturer for steps on how to do this.
  • Disable any VPN or proxy servers.
  • If your device is connected to a TV or an external display, ensure that your HDMI cable and display is compatible with HDCP 1.4 (for HD content)

Please note Sony One is only compatible with iPhone 5 and above. It is not available on iPad.

There could be several reasons for this. It typically points to information stored on the device that needs to be refreshed or to a network connectivity issue that is preventing your device from reaching the Sony One service.

First make sure you are connected to the internet.

  • Check your mobile signal strength and mobile data is switched on
  • Check your WIFI connection and ensure your router has a working connection to the internet.

Then try these steps…

Why am I having issues with low quality video streams on Android?

If you’re having issues with streaming on Sony One for your Android Phone, try the following steps:

  1. Check that you are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or 3G, you can check your Wi[1]Fi network by selecting Settings>Wi-Fi
  2. If on 3G, you may not have a fast enough connection to stream content and should try switching to 4G or Wi-Fi, or move to an area with a better signal.
  3. If on Wi-Fi, please confirm the Wi-Fi works by opening Chrome (or another browser) and load tvplayer.com. If this loads, please try to use the app again.
  4. Please also try force closing the app:
  • Open the app
  • Press the back button on your phone until you see the message ‘Are you sure you want to quit TVPlayer’
  • Press Yes
  • Reload the app
  • Clear all data from the app
  • Open the app
  • Tap settings (top right)
  • Tap Clear Cache

  • Reload the appSony One uses what is known as multi-bitrate streaming, meaning that each video stream has multiple different qualities within it. The stream qualities are default, medium and high quality.

If you are watching Sony One and have a slow or weak connection, you will likely be using the default quality stream, but if your signal improves, the stream will automatically increase the quality upwards on its own, you don’t need to reconnect. This is also the same if you are moving from a good quality signal to a slower one, the stream will adjust on its own.

What is streaming and downloading?

  • Streaming means watching videos using the Internet and requires data (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
  • Downloading a show on your mobile or tablet allows you to watch offline.
  • On the Sony One app, tap on the download button next to an episode or movie.

This will save the content to your phone or tablet so you can watch it anywhere, anytime.

How many streams can I watch at the same time?

Sony One users can watch one stream, per account, at any one time whilst you have an active video streaming pack/pass. If you rent a movie, you can enjoy two streams of this movie at any one time.

Can I download and watch later?

  • You can download your favorite shows with the Sony One app.
  • Use downloads to watch while you’re on the go and without an internet connection.
  • You can download up to 3 episodes of a series or even 3 movies.
  • It doesn’t matter what type of content – the limit is 3 downloads at any one time.
  • These downloads are available to watch anytime whilst you have an active video streaming pack
  • In addition, you can also download any rental title for 30 days.
  • When you start to watch you have 48hrs to complete the movie, including where the accompanying data pack has a duration of 24 hours.

When do downloads expire?

  • Downloads of movies and series are available to watch anytime whilst you have an active video streaming pack.
  • You can always renew your streaming pack by 1 day, 7 days or even 30 days month if you want to finish something.

Can I Watch Sony One If I Travel Abroad?

  • Unfortunately, for licensing reasons, Sony One customers are not able to stream Sony One titles while outside of their home country.
  • If you have a compatible device, you are able to download titles before you travel in order to watch offline anywhere in the world instead.

Can I watch Sony One content in HD?

HD content (720p) is only available for rental titles.  Please note that the streaming quality is also dependent on the strength of your internet connection.

How many times can I view my content?

Once you have successfully registered for Sony One you can view your content, as many times as you would like within the duration of the video streaming pack/pass you have purchased.

What streaming quality do you offer?

Sony One is available in 3 streaming qualities, default, medium and high.

  • Default: 600 kilobits per second default setting of service
  • Medium: 896 kilobits per second higher SD quality
  • High: 1128 kilobits per second near HD quality
  • Sony One uses what is known as multi-bitrate streaming to automatically adjust the quality upwards or downwards depending on the strength of your internet connection.
  • You can manually adjust the settings in More/Streaming Quality within the app menus

Why watching in Medium and High quality is best done on a Wi-Fi connection?

Higher quality video streaming uses more bandwidth. So, to help ensure you don’t use up mobile data too quickly we recommend you only watch in higher quality when your device is connected to WIFI.

Are there subtitles, alternative audio tracks or OV (original language version) available on Sony One?

  • All Sony One films, and series are available in their original version (OV).
  • All Sony One titles are also subtitled in English and some titles have audio descriptions.
  • No alternative languages are available at this stage.
  • Sony One has no influence on design of the subtitles or the audio descriptions.

How do I know if a movie or series is age rated or not?

You can also find the age rating on the respective detail pages when you click on “More…”. There is also an age restricted warning at the start of the stream.

Do you have parental PIN control features?

  • We do not have PIN control functionality.
  • All Sony One content carries rating information and age classification to help you choose.
  • Please use Sony One responsibly to protect minors from unsuitable content.

Other information on the protection of minors

  • In order to register and use the Sony One Service you must be 18 years of age.
  • If you are under 18 but at least 13 you may access and use the Sony One Service.
  • If you are at least 13 years of age, please ensure that you have obtained the consent of your parent or legal guardian.

Does Sony One have adverts?
