Ford Motor announced recently that it has established a partnership with Google and will use Android Automotive to power the infotainment system in its vehicles from 2023. Ford also revealed that it will use Google’s cloud services to process data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

The new integration means that Ford and Lincoln drivers can use Google Assistant, maps, and other applications and services (including third-party) permissions in the car and car owners can access these services without an Android phone.

Jim Farley, president, and CEO of Ford said…”We are obsessed with creating must-have, distinctively Ford products and services…This integration will unleash our teams to innovate for Ford and Lincoln customers while seamlessly providing access to Google’s world-class apps and services.”

In addition, the system will be compatible with CarPlay, so iPhone users can also use it. It will also retain its support for Amazon Alexa that it currently uses.

Farley added “As Ford continues the most profound transformation in our history with electrification, connectivity, and self-driving, Google and Ford coming together establishes an innovation powerhouse truly able to deliver a superior experience for our customers and modernize our business,”

According to Ford, by using Android and cloud services to power its cars, Ford will be able to send customers related maintenance requests and even trade-in alerts. Ford also believes that Google’s technology will allow automakers to improve the customer experience. In addition, the automobile company believes that deploying innovative personalized services will be more seamless. However, it did not specify what the service is.

Ford Has A Chance To Cover More Ground With Google

This collaboration between Google and Ford is way beyond cars. There is a deeper partnership in a plethora of areas. With Google Cloud, Ford can tap from the advantages of Google’s AI and machine learning. Both companies are forming a new working group to chase other data-driven opportunities. In the long run, Ford will be a partner of Google in the Internet of Things (IoT).

Of course, we can understand why Ford chooses Google. The latter already has an extensive platform that Ford can take advantage of. The automobile company does not have to worry about app compatibility, updates, or new features. Certainly, it does not need to develop an alternative platform.
