This is definitely a good news for enthusiasts of these brands. Imagine being able to transfer files – photos, videos, songs, documents, etc – between devices at up to 20 MBps without the use of any third-party app. That is what Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo have joined hands to do as members of a new Cross-Brand File Transfer Alliance.
At present, there are all sorts of 3rd party apps – including individual apps by smartphone manufacturers – that are used to transfer files across devices. But having a standard that works seamlessly across Androdi smartphones has been a pipe dream till now. iPhones and iPads have Airdrop.
With top manufacturers like Xiaomi (and Redmi), OPPO (and Realme), and vivo pulling resources together, this could quickly become a standard for Android that other manufacturers will embrace.
And should Huawei pull its weight with this Cross-Brand File Transfer Alliance, it is a done deal.
The cross-brand file transfer service is expected to be available in public beta by the end of August 2019.
