While we await the arrival of the much-anticipated dark mode on WhatsApp, the messaging giant is working on a number of other new features. One such feature is a “quick edit media†option that will allow you to make minor edits to media files before forwarding it to other contacts.
How The WhatsApp’s “Quick Edit Media Feature” Works
As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on this new feature to help users save time and storage. They will be able to quickly make minor modifications to media files and forward them in private or group chats in no time.
WhatsApp will be adding a new ‘Edit’ button into the mix, which you will see when you tap media sent or received by you. This is a nifty addition for users who usually discuss a chunk of their business on the messaging platform. It takes a couple-odd taps but it’s better than having to save and scour through your gallery for the image.
As seen in the demo above, the media-editing pane is still the same and hasn’t bagged any new features. You can still crop the image, scribble, add text, stickers and more to your media file, which is bare bones and has been for a really long time. I feel WhatsApp needs to upgrade its media editing tools, especially since a lot of users now utilize its Status feature on the regular.
This feature is currently under development and should make its way to users with an upcoming update, both on Android and iOS. This isn’t a really major feature so we can expect to see it sooner than other rollouts, which usually take a lot of time.
