Japan-based Sharp has unveiled a new premium smartphone – the Sharp Aquos R3 – its 2019 flagship and the sequel to last year dual notch touting Aquos R2 compact. Similar to the Aquos R2 compact, the company has adopted a novel solution to increase the screen size while keeping the fingerprint sensor, and that makes it one of the few phone maker that still stick with the now date home button embedded scanner.

The Aquos R3 uses a dual notch approach – a water-drop notch at the top, and a much wider one at the bottom encircling the home button. We can not say for sure why the company just can not bid goodbye to the home button, perhaps it got the back of its fans.

Aquos R3 launch

While the top notch is home to a front-facing camera sensor, the bottom ensures there is enough space for a front-facing stereo speaker, so you won’t have to flip your device over before you can get the proper blasting sound from your device. As if the front speaker isn’t enough, the device gets a second speaker at the top edge for more immerse and spectacular sound output. The speaker uses Dolby Atmos surround sound technology.
