On Thursday, Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp announced the “Startup India-WhatsApp Grand Challenge”. Which is entirely different from WhatsApp business.

WhatsApp has over 1.3 billion users worldwide and over 200 million users in India. The company also keeps working on bringing in new initiatives to maintain its popularity.

The main idea behind the newly launched WhatsApp feature in India is to encourage entrepreneurs and small businesses in India. Another efforts to continue its long-term hold in India market.

Recall that WhatsApp launched its Business application some months ago, which is almost a year. The app is now used by more than 5 million businesses monthly.

On October 31, 2018, WhatsApp had announced partnership with Invest India in the presence of Suresh Prabhu, Commerce & Industries Minister, Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Industrial Policy & Promotion and Chris Daniels, Vice President, WhatsApp.

It was at the event that Minister Prabhu said “Ideas and business models capable of making a large-scale socio-economic impact and solve day-to-day problems have been invited to apply for the challenge by March 10,”

However, the company said in a statement that the top five startups will receive a total grant of $250,000 (roughly Rs. 1.8 crores).
