A new mobile operating system, iOS will soon be released by Apple and some big changes are certainly expected from the next update. Lastweek, a report revealed some key features that we can expect to see in iOS 13 when it is released later in the year.

The report published by Bloomberg stated that dark mode will finally be introduced to iOS. Mac users have been able to use dark mode since it was introduced to the device last year.

iOS 13 Features: Dark Mode

When the dark mode is enabled on your device, it replaces the bright, white default background with a dark or black background. This helps to improve battery life, and most importantly makes it easier to use the device in a low-light environment.

Dark Mode is such a basic feature, but it is in hot demand by mobile users on all platforms. Samsung recently introduced Dark Mode in the latest version of their custom Android skin, One UI. iPhone and iPad users will be ecstatic to have the option available in their devices.

iOS 13: iPad-Specific Improvements

A number of great changes will most likely be introduced to the iPad, which had a hardware upgrade last year November. But its software still has some restrictions when we compare it to full computers like the Surface Book 2.

Some of the expected changes include a better way of managing files, a unique tab system which can be used to create several versions of the same app (just like in Web browsers), and a redesigned home screen.

Rumours about Apple creating a redesigned home screen actually started about a year ago, and it was initially planned to come with the iOS 12 but moved to the subsequent release. Reports state that this feature will also be added to the iPad in iOS 13. We have no confirmation that the iPhone will get the same treatment though.

The current home screen design has been the same on the iPhone since it was first introduced in 2007. The former CEO Steve Jobs amazed spectators during that year’s January MacWorld by sliding to unlock its display and unveiling a grid of icons on the 3.5-inch touchscreen. That was a very long time ago, and we hope to see a refresh of the home screen design on iOS 13.

iOS 13 Features: Magazine & Video

The report also claims that Apple will introduce two new services, a magazine subscription service and an original video content, in its operating system updates this year.

Apple’s original video content is a service similar to Netflix and HBO. It allows you stream the company’s movies and TV shows via the Apple TV, iPad and iPhone.

According to sources who know some things about this service, Apple recently started partnering entertainment companies whose channels will be available in the video streaming service, to get them to make all their content ready for streaming by mid-April.

For some years now, Apple has spent billions creating its own original content with the production of over 24 TV shows and several movies. The company has employed some famous producers and big Hollywood names, which include Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Wiig, and J.J. Abrams, among others.

This service will be included in an update on Apple’s TV app, which is pre-installed on every iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV device.

iOS 13 Features: CarPlay

iOS 13 is also said to come with an upgrade to CarPlay, the feature which can show a driver-friendly interface on a screen in your car.
