WhatsApp has finally put smile on JioPhone users after it brought its popular messaging app to the smart feature phones. The millions of JioPhone users, as well as those with the recently introduced JioPhone 2, had been anxiously waiting for the arrival of WhatsApp on their devices. Of course for them to communicate with their friends â€“ perhaps not for the spread of fake news and hoaxes.
WhatsApp has developed a new version of its app for Jio Phone. It comes with the standard WhatsApp features, including end-to-end encryption for messaging with text, images and videos. Though, it is a slimmed down and simpler version of WhatsApp, so we donâ€™t expect to see a ton of features or a particularly enticing UI but enough to offer a spontaneous experience.
Just few weeks ago, Jio Phone users (as well as users of other KaiOS phones) got a software update that added YouTube and Jio Store apps and others to their devices.
The arrival of Jio Phone Whatsapp is a definitely big deal for the KaiOS ecosystem, which now has an active base of over 40 million phones. This is about 27% of Indiaâ€™s mobile phone market and 47% of the countryâ€™s feature phone market.
