You Can Now Control The Time Spent on Social Media With This Tools

Have you been have a hard fight against your addiction to social media? You might not even be that addicted but you still want to control the time spent on them. What do we really even do on those social networking sites or apps? Most time we only check our Timelines, upload pictures/videos, and keep replying messages forever.

Facebook and Instagram have then come to our aid by helping its users tackle social media addiction. Well, Facebook Inc., really, since both brands are from the same Business. They have developed new tools to help you measure how much time you spend on those apps.

The tools were developed in collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts and organisations, academics and users of the apps. These new tools are called “Your time on Facebook” and Your activity” on Instagram respectively. is specifically designed to reduce social media addiction.

How Do These New Tools Help Fighting Addiction To Social Media?

Users will now have access to an activity dashboard on both Facebook and Instagram. Included tools include a way to limit notifications to help them control the time they’re spending online. In addition, there is a daily reminder built in.

The dashboard shows you a bar chart of the time you have spent in each app in the past seven days. You can also determine the time you choose to spend on the app and once you’ve reached that time, the app sends you a notification about you hitting your daily limit.

As for your app notifications, you can mute them for as long as you want.

 

How Do I Access Them?

On the respective apps, tap on the three vertical lines located at the right corner of the app, scroll down to “Your time on Facebook” and tap. On Instagram, the path is: Settings – “Your Activity”.

Facebook’s statement says, “We have a responsibility to help people understand how much time they spend on our platform so they can better manage their experience. It is not just the time spent on Facebook and Instagram but how they spend that time”.

The new features will be available globally within the next couple weeks and truthfully, I know I need it. This is one feature I can’t wait to have. if you suspect you might be addicted to social media, you should check this one out too.
