It was just yesterday that the government announced its plans to give about 10 million Nigerians free access to internet and now MTN is about to increase the price of SME data by almost 50% (for the basic plan).

This is not the first time SME data price will be increased; it was increased in December last year and about to be increase again come August 21, 2018.
According to the official text message sent to all SME data sellers;
Dear Customer, from August 21, 2018, the following prices will apply to MTN SME Data Share: 10GB at N7,500; 20GB at N14,000; 50GB at N30,000. Thank you.
Old Prices and New Prices Of SME Data
S/N | Data Plan (GB) | Old Price (N) | New Price (N) |
1. | 10 | 5, 500 | 7, 500 |
2. | 20 | 11, 000 | 14, 000 |
3. | 50 | 25, 000 | 30, 000 |
The moment the above price takes effect from August21, 2018, some subscribers may no longer be able to buy 1GB for N600, 2GB for N1200, 3GB for N1750 from any third party data re-seller again. I wonder what the price re-sellers will start selling by then. Well, let’s wait and see.
Therefore, we advise customers to buy data in bulk now to last you for 3 months before the proposed increment takes effect.
It is sad that at a point when MTN are supposed to be reducing the cost of data, they are increasing the cost by about 50%.
