Some months ago, MTN South Africa launched new Social data bundles on its network and one of them is the 1GBG bundle priced at R10. The mobile operator has now announced a 300% increase in the price of the package, which by implication the MTN 1GB Monthly WhatsApp Bundle package now costs R30.
MTN South Africa’s social data bundles offers access to WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, depending on your preference. The 1GB Monthly WhatsApp bundle is restricted to WhatsApp only and has a 30-day validity.
The network also offers a 1-Day WhatsApp bundle with 20MB data allocation and a 7-Day WhatsApp bundle wih 100MB allocation. They cost R1 and R5 respectively.
2/4 Unfortunately, due to a 300% increase in WhatsApp usage, the 3G network is under pressure. For this reason, MTN’s 1GB Monthly WhatsApp bundle will be repriced from R10 to R30 from 16 July 2018

MTN says that this increase is due to a 300% increase in WhatsApp usage and consequent pressure on their network capacity. This was disclosed in an update by the official MTN South Africa Twitter handle. Subscribers’ response to the announcement, naturally, has been negative, with some threatening to dump the network.
