There was a time a certain device which was uncelebratedly released and accepted because it ran Android One as Android One was tagged by some as “Nexus for the poor”. Well, since then, Android One has began to blossomed has become a beautiful software that we all wish to get and so has Infinix, in terms of maturing into a company that listens to its customers.

The company has quickly shifted gears from the recently launched Hot 6 to the upcoming Note 5 and as tradition would have it, this is a phablet device that offers almost-flagship specifications at a reasonable price. The Infinix Note 5 that is yet to launch will run on Android 8.1 Oreo, crowned with an Android One badge for clean, stock Android directly from Google.

In the past, and thanks to experience, Infinix had vowed to stay away from Android One after their first, Hot 2 was not well received in the market but aren’t we all glad things have changed now? As much as the icing is Android One, we still have a huge cake to get through.

Will It Come With A Notch?

Relax. I knew that would scare you but before you rush to the comment section, there’s no notch. However, we do get the modern 18:9 aspect ratio display that will extend to cover 6.2-inches with minimal bezels on the forehead and chin. We also expect to see a Full-HD display, but these are rumours, take this with a pinch of salt.

Note 5 Stylus

When the Note 4 launched, it came with a poorly implemented stylus that was attached to a back cover and was exclusive to the Note 4 Pro. Well, the stylus is back but Infinix hasn’t mentioned anything about a Note 5 Pro, however we get the name Note 5 Stylus – One point for cool name. Aside from a better implementation of the stylus, where it will now be hidden within the phone’s body, we might see a slight bump in internal storage and RAM on this version compared to the standard Note 5 but this meal in particular is too salty – The only difference could be that one has stylus support and the other doesn’t.

Face Unlock, Usual Big Battery and No Dual Cameras

The Hot 6 has it – face unlock, so it’s no-brainer that it would also make an appearance on the Note 5. Some people might complain that we should be getting dual cameras in 2018 but the Note is not a camera-centric device so we won’t fault Infinix for skipping on the frenzy. Reliable sources point to a 13MP main camera paired with an 8MP selfie shooter which should serve just fine.

The biggest deal with the Note is its battery capacity and last year’s model came packed with quite a sizeable 4300mAh battery and the company is hinting at bumping up the size.

Launch Date

Infinix have already announced a June 24 launch date, with the pin dropped in Dubai for the launch. Pricing has not yet been released but expect something in the lines of NGN 90,000.
