The University of Ilorin has been known to be one of the greatest University within Nigeria and even beyond the shore of the country. It is widely known for its fastness in terms of school calender but same
could not be said in its organisation when it comes to admission.
This issue could also be caused by the number of admission seeker who wish to be its student because of their non-association with ASUU. They don’t participate in ASUU strike or any negative event that will distrupt its calender.
Last year 2016, the management of University of Ilorin have been accused of collecting acceptance fee from admission seekers in the institution for the 2016/17 academic session and still send them back home.
Recall the statement posted by institution on its portal around October 2016 whoch said“This is to notify the newly admitted students of University of Ilorin that the portal is now open for payment of acceptance fee.”
The sum of N20, 000 acceptance fee each and another N250 as bank charges were to be paid by admission seekers as instructed by the university. The prospective students made the payment of N20,250 after entering their JAMB registeration number and surname on the portal.
After the payment, candidates were to check the portal frequently for clearance status after completing registration, including upload of citizenship certificate and O’level results with scratch card details.
Today is February 1st, 2017, more than 3months after the payment, many candidates still don’t know where they belong. They are still struggling to confirm their admission status despite paying the required fee and going through other registration processes online.
Here is one of the candidates’ statement:
“I paid my acceptance fee about two months ago believing that I have been offered admission by the university. I was however surprised when I could not be cleared and when I sort to make confirmation from appropriate quarters, I was told that I have deficiency in one subject.
“At the moment, I am confused and I cannot imagine myself waiting for another year. I hope the management will give me a waiver or give me admission for alternative course,” an admission seeker, who preferred not to be mentioned disclosed.
However, the management of the institution has refuted the claim of short-changing any candidate.
Are we to say, the management are just granting admission to candidates without properly checking their capability or just decided to take advantage of the current situation of the country? Where 100 candidates fights for one slot.
